Chia-Ching Shen
Classical Pianist & Music Educator
Hi! My name is Chia-Ching Shen. Originally from Taiwan, where I received thorough professional musical training. I am a classical-trained professional pianist, an enthusiastic music educator, and a caring piano teacher.
I received my Doctor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from Florida State University, where I was awarded to be the membership to Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Music Honor Society. My Doctoral Treatise “The Asian Inspiration: Chinese Influences in the Solo Piano Music of Chen Yi” had started my interest in discovering Chinese folk music. In 2012, I researched and collected over hundred Chinese folk songs while directing the initial Chinese-Music group class, the music-language class for a private-owned music and arts school in New York. I am continuously exploring my research possibilities in early musical training and language study.
In addition to being a music educator, I enjoy giving concerts as soloist, collaborative pianist and chamber musician. I have given performances in Europe, Asia and the United States. My concert appearances had brought me to some high-profile venues, including Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, New York Steinway Hall, Princeton University, Flushing Town Hall, Chicago Cultural Center, and others.
Formerly, I served as a Visiting Professor of Piano at Florida State University, Collaborative Pianist at Montclair State University, and Artist-in-Residence at HudsonWay Immersion School. In 2017, I join the team of Avenues: The World School, where I serve as Chinese Music Teacher. In addition, I also maintain active one-to-one piano teaching in New York City. Students has been selected to perform at Carnegie Weill Hall, New York Steinway Hall, National Opera Center...etc.
